On Monday, June 2nd, Martin Berkofsky performed
a benefit concert at the lovely Europa
Restaurant in Hermann,
Missouri, a historic and picturesque German town in the heart
of the
Missouri
wine
country. Berkofsky
made
his appearance while passing through
the
area
on his Celebrate Life Run--a journey on foot, that began
in Tulsa, Oklahoma and completing in Chicago.
Most of Martin's concerts during his route benefit the
Cancer Treatment Research Foundation (CTRF) located in Arlington
Heights, Illinois, however, CTRF graciously allowed all the
proceeds from the
Hermann concert, to go directly to a Hermann
family
who
was recently
left motherless from the devastating disease of cancer. CTRF
is honored to join the people of Hermann in rallying around
the family.
The concert at
the Europa Restaurant was filled-and a significant amount
was raised.
The piano Mr. Berkofsky played at the Europa is a 1898 Steinway
built at the time when German craftsmen and technicians were
brought
to
the Steinway (Americanized from their German name, Steinweg)
family's factory in New York. Instruments from those golden
years of Steinway have the penciled signature on the piano's
bottom key, of the technician who did the final regulation
and inspection of the piano: an old-world mark of quality
not to be found in today's instruments.
The Hermann concert was arranged by local residents, Gary
and Michelle Amirault. |
