On Friday, May 30th, Martin Berkofsky performed
to a packed house at Castleman Hall,
on the University of Missouri-Rolla campus. Mr. Berkofsky made
his performance while passing through
the area on his Celebrate Life Run--a journey on foot,
that began in Tulsa, Oklahoma and completing in Chicago.
Berkofsky dedicated the evening's performance to
local resident, Francis Oakley, for the countless students
she has inspired through her love of music and through her
love of people. Mrs. Oakley has been a pianist and piano
teacher for many years and is now battling cancer. Her husband,
David Oakley, is
the former Head of the Music Department at the University.
Response was overwhelming as additional chairs had to be
brought in for the approximately 130 people who attended.
While The concert was a free benefit concert to raise money
for cancer
research, donations were accepted. Over $400 was
raised
from the event, all of which will be donated to the Cancer
Treatment Research Foundation, where 99 cents of ever dollar
donated goes directly to fund innovative cancer research.
