On the evening of April 8, the day before Martin would launch
his journey Martin performed the first of several concerts
benefiting CTRF. The concert was held at Cancer Treatment
Centers of America in Tulsa,
Okla.
CTRF's executive director, Dane Duval, emceed the evening.
Martin performed a variety of beautiful classical piano
pieces, including “Impromptu
Op. 29 in A Flat Major” by Frederic Chopin; “Op.
120 in E Flat Major by Franz Schubert;” and “Etude
in D Flat Major, ‘Un Sospiro’” and “Hungarian
Rhapsody No. 12” by Franz Liszt.
To celebrate his 60th birthday the following day, Martin
was surprised Martin with a gift, cake and an audience rendition
of “Happy
Birthday” during intermission.
The audience was deeply inspired and appreciative of Martin's
great talents and skill. Comemorative shirts and CDs sold
at the event quickly sold out. All proceeds from merchandise
sales as well as the concert's donation fees will be devoted
toward cancer research through CTRF.
